Upgrade to LiveCycle DataServices

,,,

Have you ever started a Flex project, planning only to use Flash Remoting (such as a connection to ColdFusion or .NET), or Web Services, when you realize halfway through the project that it could really use the power behind LiveCycle Data Services? Converting a project in Flex Builder from using Flash Remoting (RemoteObjects) or no server side connection, to utilizing a connection to LDS is not trivial, if you haven’t done it before.  Sure, you can create a new project, and import all the files — but if you are, for example, using SVN to sync your files, it is just a pain in the butt.

Customer Service

I have always thought as customer service as one of the most important virtues for any business, public or private.  Why would people stand for being treated like a cow about to go to slaughter?  But it seems that regular customer service is just deteriorating away from underneath us in almost every angle.

Flex User’s Group Christmas Party

,,

If you are in the Lansing/East Lansing area on the 11th of December, we are having our 1st annual Mid-Michigan Adobe User Groups Christmas Party, at the East Lansing Pizza  House, in Hannah Plaza (on the corner of Harrison and Service Road).  This will be a joint meeting with the Mid-Michigan ColdFusion Users Group and the Michigan Flex User’s Group.  The Flex User’s Group will be giving away a copy of Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Web Premium, along with other great prizes.

This will NOT be a formal meeting.  We have traded it in for a casual get-together over a pizza dinner.  We will be doing a show-and-tell, however for those who want to participate in that (Hint: great way to get prizes!).

We are still looking for some sponsors for the dinner (drinks will be on you guys, sorry!), so if your company would like to contribute, please email me.

Speaking at 360|Flex in Atlanta!

,,

360|Flex Atlanta BadgeI will be speaking at 360|Flex in Atlanta, this coming February (25th – 27th). I will be discussing An Introductory to OOP (Object Oriented Programming) principals, and how they relate in Flex.  I will be showing some code, but most of the talk will be theory.  That’s ok, because we all need theory to do descent programming ;)   This will be an introductory topic, so if you already know about OOP, it may be boring to you.

I will be covering :

  • Differences between Object Oriented Programming and Procedural Programming
  • Introduction to Objects, and why they exist
  • Objects as People
    • Functions and Properties
    • Interacting with ‘People’
  • Code Re-use
  • Other OOP Principals that you may have heard of

All in all, it should be a fun time!  I will also be joined by other speakers such as Ben Forta, Jeffery Houser,
and Michael Labriola just to name a few.

Sign-Up for 360|Flex today, as space is limited — but the party isn’t!
